(Mason, OH) - On August 11, individuals with disabilities served by the Warren County Board of Developmental Disabilities (WCBDD) visited Kings Island for free thanks to the support of generous community members.
Over 40 individuals enrolled in WCBDD services received a free ticket to the local amusement park after WCBDD Maintenance Specialist Robert Abbott decided to sponsor and coordinate the day.
As a frequent visitor of Kings Island, Abbott wanted to share the experience with local members of his community. In addition to providing free tickets for individuals served by WCBDD, Abbott also provided discounted tickets to family members and providers of those served by WCBDD, members of the Jeep Lifestyle Group, and WCBDD staff members.
After hearing about the free Kings Island day, 27 additional tickets were donated by community members who wanted to support the effort, including ShareFax Credit Union, Keller Williams Realty, and WCBDD staff members.
The day at Kings Island encouraged community integration and allowed Warren County residents to enjoy their local amusement park. Individuals and groups who attended included people who had never visited the park before, regular visitors to the amusement park, groups of friends, and families who were able to spend the day together.
Members of the Jeep Lifestyle Group, also known as Jeepers, lined up their themed jeeps outside of Kings Island. The Jeepers showed their love for the Mason amusement park with jeeps decorated in honor of fan-favorite rides, including a Vortex-themed jeep and a Beast-themed jeep.
Abbott said he plans to host this event every summer for the foreseeable future.
