(Lebanon, OH) – Community members in Ohio are gearing up to be “Freezin’ for a Reason” as Special Olympics Ohio launches its annual Polar Plunge. Polar Plunges are nationally recognized fundraisers that challenge community members to jump into frigid mid-winter waters in support of Ohio’s 20,000 Special Olympics athletes. From the end of January to the middle of March, seven plunges will be held throughout the state. A local Polar Plunge will be held at Caesar Creek Lake on Saturday, February 3, 2024, where Warren County community members will take an icy plunge in the name of inclusion.

Last year, Warren County Board of Developmental Disabilities (WCBDD) Superintendent and Chair of the Special Olympics Ohio Board, Megan Manuel, served as one of the top fundraisers at the Caesar Creek Polar Plunge. Special Olympics basketball team, the Warren County Wildcats were named as the top fundraising group. Both Manuel and the Wildcats were significant contributors to the $44.1K raised. All proceeds benefit Special Olympics Ohio’s efforts in providing athletes the opportunity to develop fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy, and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills, and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes, and the community.

The Caesar Creek Polar Plunge will be held at Caesar Creek State Park located at 8570 OH-73 in Waynesville, Ohio. Registration begins at 11:00 a.m., followed by a short program and awards ceremony. The Plunge begins at 1:00 p.m.
